Metz 48 AF-1 and Sony A550 ... no info on the flash?

Unread post by PedroDuarte »

Hello to all,
i just bought a Metz 48 AF-1 for my Sony. So far so good but, the problem is that it shows no info on the display of the flash. It works good but only shows dashes where there should be iso, shutter speed and apperture ...

Should it be a problem of incompatible firmware on the new A550? ( i already updated the firmware ... i think ... Metz firmware update software isn't very communicative and the flash doesn't show the actual firmware version :P )

If someone could help me i would be thankful :)

15 Troubleshooting
Should the flash unit fail to function properly or meaningless content
appear on the flash unit display panel, switch the flash unit off with the
main switch for approximately 10 seconds. Check the camera settings
and make sure the foot of the flash unit is mounted correctly in the
camera’s accessory shoe.
Replace the batteries with new or freshly charged batteries.
The flash unit should function normally again once it is switched back on. If this
is not the case, contact your local dealer.
Below is a list of some of the problems that may occur when the flash unit is
used. For each item, possible causes and remedies for the problem are listed.

The above is what is recommended in the troubleshooting section of the 48 AF-1 Manual, I assume you have already done this? If so the only other possibility that I can think of that might be worth checking is whether the camea is in WL mode...

Thank you for the reply...

just FIY:

after some testing i found out that the readings only show if the flash it's @ default position. If it's swiveled, it won't work.
If you have it in Slave it will get the readings right too.

So ... in the end... it's working okay ... it's just how it works that i was not aware :)

Thank you all :)
