Ray Ring flash (adapter actually)

Unread post by pakodominguez »

Hi David,

I saw the note about this ring flash adapter on Photoworld 2010 #2, pretty neutral BTW. I would like to ask if you could give us more information about this adapter, like real use: is this a macro only solution, or it can be use for everything?

Thanks!
Pako

Strictly non-macro - it can just about illuminate some macro shots, but it is far too large and too far ahead of the lens normally. By pushing it back, behind a 100mm for example, it can light macro. It is designed for fashion and portraits. I do not advise it, I sold mine as I could not see much chance I would use it for the intended purpose and I already have a very high power Metz 60CT with Paffrath & Kemperer custom ring flash head which does much better (like f/16 not f/4!) for fashion.

Ex-RAF military surplus sale - there were about two dozen kits sold in the UK, the vendor started at £200 including a new battery for the 60 packs and quickly realised people would pay double that. Richard got in early, and bought two complete kits at the first asking price.
