A Dance Photographer's Archive

Hi All,
Work has been overwhelming for the past few months and I haven't had much time for photography. So for now, I thought I'd share some shots from my dance archives. Some of them might be a decade old or older. Since it's Nutcracker season I'll start with those. Plus, it's every dance company's biggest production of the year, so I have a bunch of them.
Happy Holidays!
Sig
Everyone is "marking" through their Act 2 choreographies on stage before the dress rehearsal begins.

Snow - The overhead rig which is supposed to slowly release the snow malfunctioned and dropped all of the snow in one big dump. It looked like a blizzard on stage. I managed to lift the camera and get a shot of the tail-end of the storm while the dancers were still performing.

Sig,
Wonderful capture. Feel as if I was sitting in the front row (albeit angles are all incorrect).

Thanks Sury!
The "helicopter" lift, where the guy throws the girl straight up in the air and spins her while she lifts one of her legs and swings it like a rotary-wing-blade over the guy's head.

Just a little history on a former dance classmate. This an old printed photo that I had scanned a few years back. I took this around 1985-86 with a Pentax ES and a 55mm 1.8 Takumar lens that I inherited from my older brother, Henry (no, not this site's Henry
). This is a group of young students that went to the same ballet school that I did in Granite City, Illinois. We would do short performances for small schools around the area. The person of interest in this photo is a little girl dressed in all black and wearing tap shoes. Who is that? That is Tracey Petrillo, the original Sparkle Fairy (for Sparkle paper towels). As a kid, she was just as crazy in dance class as she is in the commercial. Her childish antics always kept me entertained.

Here is a YouTube link to one of her first commercials. She was replaced as the Sparkle Fairy a few years back. She said that it was because she had gotten "too old" for the part. So now she's off doing other gigs. Who knows where she'll show up next.

Here's a short video biography on Tracey.
