Re: Tiny sensor revenge gallery thread!

A couple of days ago with Japanese friends I ate some whale for the first time. Not bad. A Greek friend had told me that the whale he ate in Japan one time tasted sort of like bacon. That was good to hear because I was living in dread that it might taste like chicken. :) By the way, crocodile does taste like chicken. I guess not so surprising since both are descended from dinosaurs. :)

When I was a kid I never ate whale, but I ate a squirrel one time. The fluffy tail was hard to swallow so I got it down by drinking a big glass of iced tea. I got to tell you though, by the time that tail got all the way through me I felt like I was really cleaned out.

Generally I will try to eat almost anything once. No guarantees for a second time though. A few times I have had pig guts. There are places here in Japan where people like to eat them. I have had it a couple of times and have also had tripe in Texas a few times. I don't like it. A couple of years ago along with some Japanese friends we went to one of those pig guts restaurants. I told them I would pass on the pig guts and eat something else though. By that time I had eaten them several times already so I had more than satisfied my curiosity and felt no more need to try them again.

I was wondering around this morning and as I walked through an area with lots of izakaya (pubs), nomiya (bars), restaurants, etc. I saw this small place. This is one of those guts places I mentioned. The big sign there says ホルモンランチ -- hormone lunch (guts lunch). For some reason in Japan the English word hormone is used to mean guts, entrails.

After you eat your hormone lunch, if you don't feel well, you can puke your guts out.

I suppose I could cross post this in the other thread too.

You think so? I thought it tasted more like pork chops.

Me too. But I doubt I can say that I've eaten the variety that you have. The only thing I've eaten that's really messed me up was that tape worm 2 years ago. :?

Anyone up for a gut lunch in Japan? We could have a pca meeting there.

Smog from Beijing blew to Japan. Actually, it is very fine water mist making a thick fog outside Dogo Onsen. They do it a few times a day during the summer. Much cooler in the fog. :)

Nice shot Henry. I did try alligator "bites" (meat fried in batter). It was so deep fried,
it did taste like nothing, I mean McDonald's Chicken.

Ahh, that XM. I bought an XK in 1976, but only put a hand full of rolls of film through it. Big and heavy and just didn't like using it because of that. Nice camera for the time though and quite advanced. I had planned to get a Nikon F2 Photomic, but then started reading about all the new tech in the XK and ended up getting it.

Congrats on your purchase :) I bought mine in about 1975 and have taken about 2000 rolls of 36-exposure film/slides. It's a shame that 'electronic' cameras have made it an unnecessary item. Or possibly that's a benefit. Maybe in another 50 years I could get something back for a still-functioning antique :!: As an aside, I think the body plus viewfinder plus batteries was LIGHTER than an F2?
