Thanks guys  . Nice pics, well much better than seeing the real thing :D . What amazing looking mouth parts those two have!

I guess the Weta gave its name to Peter Jackson's design team? I hadn't realised it was a mini-beast.

We have a bug jar with an in-built magnifying glass so we can take a look at things when we are out in the woods etc. It is about 1 inch across. You'd need chainmail gloves and a bucket sized one for your collections :) .

That's exactly right. Apparently he's terrified of them too!

Some nice insect samples, Redsim74. : )

Your house and garden premises do present a semi-dangerous place but also definitely good one for some of the best photos! : ))

Hi Greg, : )

That one, even though probably dead looks like a biter!

Thanks for sharing,

Thanks, Yildiz.

Most of my photography seems to happen around my home at the moment. We're renovating so not a lot of opportunity to get farther afield right now.

I wanted to try out my Macro lens a few months ago but struggled for subject matter as the weather was fairly cold.. until I found a dead daddy long legs in my lampshade :-). He's a bit dessicated and missing a leg or two but was a very cooperative subject, allowing me to focus through and try some image stacking.

Shot taken using a55, Sony 30mm MACRO prime, ISO 100, f11, shutter 0.8s, 6 images stacked using a trial copy of Helicon focus, polished off in DXO Optics 6.5.

That dual wasp shot was a great capture aa los banos, and not a bad spider shot either, (not an insect, strictly speaking) but good just the same.
You've got stacking working pretty well for the daddy long legs shot DrScottNicol, quite good I thought.
Greg

Just a couple of large Hornets I must have accidently zapped when spraying the odd mosquito (some time ago, before I got my softbox working better).

Very nice work Birma, you were lucky to get that gold coloured moth to sit still, there's a similar one here and can be quite difficult to approach.

I've posted this shot on other sites but would like an opinion from the folks here. Thanks.
