I think you've found your photographic muse in Madeira, Mark :)

Well Andy, funny you'd mentioned that. I became interested in photography after we went to Madeira 5 years ago. I came back from that holiday, using a simple Canon Ixus compact to record the beautiful landscapes there, knowing nothing about photography. I remember coming home, all excited and wanted to show everyone the photos I took of this incredible piece of the world. I ended up very disappointed because none of the photos I took came anywhere close to resembling the beautt of what we had seen. That's when I started reading as much as I could about photogtaphy. A year later I bought my first 'real' camera, a Sony a390.

Now I had the chance to set the record straight so to speak. I'm very pleased with the results of my endeavour into photography. The images I brought back this time actually do resemble the beauty we have experienced. I'm very glad I have those skills now.

Mark,
I second Andy. Excellent shots. You have now become a "birds and bees" expert.
Isn't this your honeymoon trip to Madeira? I can't remember.

This little Neon Skimmer (Libellula croceipennis) I think, was kind enough to hang around while I was waiting for a better sun position for an IR shot...
I'm not sure about the name, feel free to correct me.

Nice capture John. Especially the contrast with creamy yellow bokeh is very pleasing.

Thanks Sury... :D I do love the bokeh of the 70-200G. I still crave the STF though... Maybe after I get a Full Frame... And a super wide angle for the IR rig... Oh... And Ian's college tuition... Can't forget that!
I really came to appreciate those who take pictures of such small things in the wild... There was on the gentlest of breezes yesterday, but it was enough to ruin lots of shots..
