after the birds had gone at mid-day, i tried to shoot a part of the wetlands using the kitlens with an r72 infrared filter and this is the result in b/w....

Unusually calm water for mid-day.
A wonderful shot though. Hypnotic.

It's good to see WA has still got wetlands aa los banos, I heard you were having a very dry spell over there. It must have been a little after noon in the shot because of the non verticle shadow over on the right, lots of contrast, I like the log in the foreground.

Very neat, AA. : )

The stillness is really emphasized by the water, the reflections, the log and the IR conversion.

Thanks for sharing,

Very eerie shot - I love it.

One question, did you have your camera sensor altered in anyway (i've seen people post about sending them away to get converted) or is this simply the effect of using the filer and a little b&w coversion in post? If this is just a filter, has anyone tried this on a NEX or a55? I guess the slt might not be ideal due to the mirror but what about the NEX? You've made me curious now :-)

Hi Scott, AA says he used a filter at the top of the thread. Your question got me thinking about the Nex as I'm thinking of getting one soon. I found this link (sorry for cross posting to 'the other place' ) http://forums.dpreview.com/forums/readf ... 915&page=1

Thanks Birma
looking at that thread, not sure I want to go the full conversion route detailed further on but the first poster was able to achieve a reasonable effect with just a filter and a long exposure - time to hunt down a suitable filter I think :-)

Yes Scott I used a hoya filter and shoot b/w directly from the camera :)

Your newest shot is really nice! I prefer it over the earlier one, but both are good.

I agree with Henry. More sky interest and more in the foreground seems to add balance.
