FAUNA
We have different threads here in this forum covering many topics and yet there are much more omitted.
So I guess beginning with a new one will serve us all.
As the title implies, post as much animal shots be it in the wildlife or in captivity, domestic animals at home, in farms or in open fields, etc.
I begin with the following:
shot at Yerevan zoo (link) with A700 and my newly acquired Sony 70-300 G
A700 + Sony 70-300 G
A700 + Rokinon 85/1.4

Re: FAUNA
Lovely shots Dr H, particularly 1 and 2.
This is a shot of my mother's dog - its not the greatest in terms of technique (really needed to be stopped down a notch or two to get the eyes in focus) and was just a spare of the moment 'blink and its gone' shot but I like it as it makes her look slightly mad.. which she is

Re: FAUNA
I found the Gorrila sanctuary (at Howletts Zoo in Kent) a little sad - they do lots of good work in terms of saving and breeding these animals but they just don't look particularly happy or stimulated... this particular individual expressed his disdain at the situation
a55, probably a Sigma 70-300 at 70mm but for once I can't quite remember which lens I was using at that moment...
the tiger enclosure was a bit larger and this individual was sleeping off a heavy meal (half a carcass of which was just out of shot here) - this was achieved by focussing through a tight gridded fence and the lines show up in the bokeh in the background..
a55, Sigma 70-300 OS
Finally, this is a field near where I live - having a whole flock of sheep watch your every move turns out to be slightly unnerving
a55, Sony 18-250

Re: FAUNA
In 1993 I had my Minolta Alpha 707si + Minolta 100-300mm hanging off my shoulder, a cup of hot coffee and a banana in one hand, and a plate of breakfast in the other hand. It was pretty early in the morning and I was walking from the campfire to a camp stool under a big tree right outside of the Great Zimbabwe ruins, where we had camped. I put my plate down on the camp stool, took the banana out of the hand with the coffee and placed it on the ground next to the stool and then straightened up in preparation to pick up the plate and sit down to chow down. A second or so had elapsed since my hand had left the banana at my feet and suddenly there was a gray blur and sensation of something rushing between my legs. I was certainly startled, but quickly turned and saw the monkey who had jumped off the tree, grabbed my banana, and was running away. I dropped the coffee and ran after him with my camera. I guess I ran almost 150 meters across a field with the monkey bandit way out in front of me until he jumped up on a small limb, settled down, and started eating my banana. I got closer and took this photo. As I walked back to my breakfast I felt it was a good trade.
Oh, by the way, I figured my breakfast would probably be gone too when I got back, but my companions saved it for me and enjoyed watching me running after the thief.

Re: FAUNA
I think you may have, Doc! I certainly do enjoy it. It isn't the most useful focal length on APS-C, but its close-focusing combined with the fact that it's my sharpest lens by far make it an instant favorite.Dr. Harout wrote:Kevin, did I ever tell you that the 85/2.8 SAM is a wonder?

Re: FAUNA
Well, to continue my monkey theme, here is one in northern Thailand. I was walking along and saw him. He was on a heap of garbage and was drinking the remains in this bottle.

Re: FAUNA
Congratulations Dr. Harout.
The lens delivers very bright and detail-prone frames.
Very nice shots of the tiger and the lion in captivity. The behind-the-bars shot especially bothers me inside.
Thanks for sharing and for starting such an enjoyable thread.
Very nice and sometimes amusing shots from everyone! : )

Re: FAUNA
When I got back to camp everyone was laughing and asking me if I really thought I was going to get my banana back. I thought they knew me better than that. I was after a photo of the monkey with my banana and I got that.Dr. Harout wrote:Wonderful story Henry.
