As I have said in other threads, dull grey weather yesterday, and today adding rain and cooler temperatures. Perfect for a British bank holiday, and of course the countless Jubilee picnics that will going on up and down the country . I think we'll be having ours in doors. Hope Liz and Phil don't get too chilly on their big barge trip today Saw this unusual sight yesterday while we were walking in the park - a swarm of bees on a tree branch. I didn't want to get too close and so it isn't a super detailed shot - everyone was sensibly giving it a wide berth . 2012 Swarm by Birm, on Flickr Nex 5 with Minolta MD 50/1.4 Hope anyone else having Diamond Jubilee celebrations today manages to enjoy them despite the weather

That was an interesting find Birma, I see in Wiki that you can capture them with a box and a sheet and take them home to start a honey bee hive of your own...not for the faint hearted though that one I think, I think I'd pass myself. Greg

That looks like a sight I would snap a picture of and hastily depart from Great find! The weather here s*cks! It's summer, but the meteorologists compare the day with the weather we had last Christmas It's dull, rainy and just 9 degrees C! It's summer for crying out loud! It should be mid 20's to 30 degrees by now Mark

Our local council no longer offers a service to remove bees etc. from your house and garden, instead it provides the number of the local bee keeping association who may be interested to collect swarms of honey bees, just as you suggest Greg. I think I'd leave it to the experts with those big white suits and smoke puffing things You're right about the weather Mark - not at all summery . It rained all day today, the only variation being between light drizzle, and heavy down-poor. The one way to celebrate the Diamond Jubilee here was eating - it was a tough job ... 2012 Jubilee Cream Tea by Birm, on Flickr 2012 Jubilee Scone by Birm, on Flickr

Yum scones with strawberry jam and cream and topped off with a real strawberry or two. I’ll have to make a suggestion or subtle hint or two at my end. Greg Ps I watched most of the Thames boat procession last night, (you sure have to have some stamina too be a Royal, pity about the weather), apparently some of our Navy were on the escort vessels, according to the preview interviews, but I didn’t catch any update on that score during the actual event, so I’m not sure which ones they were on.

Interesting shot of the bees Birma, an even more interesting one on the table. I could manage that nicely, it all looks so scrumptious ;^) Thanks for sharing
I saw a few Canadian flags on the Thames, bet there were lots of Australians in and amongst Greg. So sorry to see it poured down. Queen well in her 80s and the Duke around 90. They're both amazing!

Thanks Greg and DA The Thames procession looked brilliant I thought. We had an entertaining day watching it on the telly in the dry. Tilly was particularly excited to see a real Princess, and so every sighting of Princess Kate was greeted with much flag waving and cheering As you say Greg and DA, shame about the rain, but we can't say we're not used to it. It'll be our secret weapon for the Olympics; sport in the rain . I hope the were handing out hot toddies or similar on the royal barge to keep them warm I'm glad some of the RAN were there Greg, we probably needed some sailors who don't ground brand new subs and similar such mistakes

Birma, I used to see such swarms of bees when I was 3-4 years old when we had decent bee hives in our garden which our bees would choose to abandon to create a new neighbourhod for themselves on the nearest fruit tree... : ) Ten man in veiled headwear and white attires would try to re-attract them back into their original hive... A long process.
When one is 3-4 years old, it's called the adventure of the day... : ))
Lately you've been to some nice places that I'm pretty jealous of. Love the meadows and the wild flowers..
Thanks for sharing,
Yildiz

Thanks Yildiz I can well imagine those bee 'wranglers' carefully trying to get the swarm back to the protection of the hive, and also trying to keep the curious 3-4 year old out of harms way

Yeah me too, the composition, detail and sky in the first is great. Greg ps pity such grand places get graunched for some reason or other, but I guess some don't so at least there are some that we can see in original form. Townsville weather: 11 degrees forecast tonight, getting close to zero for me.
