I sifted through pages of Plovers, Sandpipers, Stints, Knots, Dowitchers, Tattlers, Greenshanks, Redshanks and Curlews and the closest I can get, so far, is a non breeding Lesser Yellowlegs (can’t actually see the legs to confirm the colour), it’s a wader related too the Redshanks and Greenshanks. The other one is a Frigatebird for sure, it doesn’t appear in my book which has three species listed for our waters but whatever species it is I think it’s a Juvenile.
A couple of days ago I sent the photos to my old birder buddy in California and he replied this morning:
The first bird was harder for me. It was obviously a Frigatebird, but what sex and age due to the spotting in the white? It is a juvenile Magnificent Frigatebird and is a 3rd or 4th year bird and could be either sex. The 1st year white has a different pattern and the second year is clean white with no dark feathers. I had to look this one up in the books.
The second bird appears to be a Willet in breeding plumage with its straight bill. A Godwit would have a distinctly upturned bill which would have a flesh-colored base, not gray or bluish. Most birds have a black tip on their bills since they are black because of the melanin content which makes the parts more resistant to wear. Notice that the flight feathers of most birds are black as are many bill tips.
By the way, is a photo of a birder close enough in a bird photo thread? Since Rod provided the answer I will immortalize him by posting a photo I took of him while birding in California more than 20 years ago.

Mark, Doc: Yes, definitely, Rod is an old bird! By the way, I recall that back in the days we worked at the same computer company in California that he had somehow managed to get his company provided business cards to have the title Birder Extraordinaire added under his official job title. Also, he used to have personalized license plates for his car that said SULIDAE. Very few people got it and he had to tell me what it meant:

Yeah Mark, Henry that’s clever, the average motorist following behind wouldn’t twig that the ‘SULIDAE’ number plate in front means the driver is quite partial to Boobies. Greg

Exactly! I guess most of us are, but the censors at the California DMV would catch anything too obvious. By the way, I remember driving on the highway back in the 1980s and a car passed me that had this personalized license plate: IB6UB9. Somehow that one slipped by the censors.
Here is a Harpy Eagle from the Dallas Zoo. Funky bokeh due to shooting through chain link fence. Taken with a700, 70-200 G SSM. Thanks for looking. John New Years resolution.. Not to be such a PCA Whack-A-Mole..

Thanks Greg... There wasn't much wind that day, so I think it was some kind of display by the eagle. Whack-A-Mole is a game where a mole head pops out of random holes on a board, and the player tries to whack it when it pops up. I meant it to refer how I pop up now and then to post things, and then go silent for a while....

To be honest- a bit burnt out with work and the band stuff... Photography hadn't been much fun of late.... The trip to the zoo with KB rejuvenated my spirits..

I know exactly where you are coming from, I'm really over house repairs myself, it seems endless, and there is more on the horizon, the more you do the more you find that needs fixing. Greg Ps KB has been quiet as well.
I have another day with the band on the 3rd of Feb, but after that, I'm done for a while. I have had a local magazine use a photo in December for a two page spread, and they are going to use another in Feb. The pay hasn't been much, but it has brightened my photographic spirits. Yeah, KB has been quiet too, but when he can post some, I know he has some great shots too...
