Ok, maybe it won't make sense translated but I'll give it a try:
The history says that the founders (around 1939) bought a "koster-boat" (kosterbåt) pic.
and rebuilt it to fit under the low bridges of Gothenburg. One of the founders then said that the boat looked like a turtle lying upside down, and the swedish word for turtle (sköldpadda) is a composite of the words for shield and toad. So something like shielded-toad
Then of course they just shortened it to Paddan, The toad
