I like those Henry, despite those Vietnamese ones looking a little dilapidated they would still be very good at doing the job intended, and the Nile photo is marvellous.

Great pictures Henry :) . I was sure you must have some ferry pictures in your archive.

I particularly like the picture from Aswan - a busy looking place for boats :) .

I love traveling with ferries. We've got lots of them here, but never caught one on camera. Will think about it next time I see one. Original idea for a themed thread Birma!

Birma,

This might interest you as a ferry enthusiast:

Anyway to add to your collection, both to the Isle of Bute. We used the Colintrave crossing and if you blinked you missed it, probably the most expensive short crossing I have made (around 400m for just under £20 return).

PS Sea Eagles, my ears pricked up instantly, drooling already.
All my Sony SLT gear gone. Still got my RX100 though.

This is such a cool thread. Here are a couple from Vancouver, BC.

This is the Sea Bus that crosses the Burrard Inlet:

This is the Water Taxi that crosses False Creek:

Those are great ferry shots Mike, and Henry you found a nice elevated vantage point for those fine additions. The ferries in Scotland are especially nicely presented and maintained, a credit to the line.

Here is a ferry photo taken from the island of Santorini in Greece. In 2001 we rode ferries from Athens to Santorini to Naxos to Mykonos to Athens over a period of about a week and I am sure I have some photos of them, but I don't have scans. Also, we took the all night ferry from Igoumenitsa, Greece to Brindisi, Italy and I recall taking photos, but they are also not scanned.

Great to see some different Cal Macs Mike :) . Lovely clear pictures.

Look forward to your ferries Mark!

I knew you'd have some ferry shots Henry :) . I really like the Vancouver water taxi. Great round looking small boat - quite like a bath toy we have.

A couple more - this time from onboard in 2011.

Sailing from Skye to the Isle of Harris on the Cal Mac MV Hebrides. Following several days of awful weather we were very lucky with this beautiful day's ferry crossing. (The day before the ferry had almost been unable to dock in Skye due to high winds.) This is the super structure of the ferry around the funnel with the Red Ensign (flown by British merchant shipping) proudly flying. This flag is sometimes called the "Red Duster", but I'm not sure how it got this name - naval humour I suspect :) .

I was attracted by the strange sense of the hook (used for raising and lowering the 'gang-plank') intruding in to the view of the Harris hills in the diatnce.

Both from A700 with (I think) Tamron 17-50/2.8.
(Apoloigies if I've posted these pics before - couldn't quite remember.)

Good snippets there Birma, looks like you were lucky with that pleasant weather for the trip back then, nice blue sky and an attractive view of the distant islands and the water looks very clean.
I’m sort of getting the hang of the hook, but I’m struggling with it a bit.

An enjoyable thread

Three ferries from me

I was on the outbound ferry for Wellington. Thankfully despite the grey skies threatening an uncomfortable passage it was a pleasant crossing.

One of the few grey days I have experienced on my visits to Sydney.

Taken from the ferry en-route from Chau Doc, Vietnam to Phnom Penh, Cambodia.

Great set of three ferries Ossie - from the ocean going Kaitaki, the busy Sydney ferry, to the 'seen better days' ferry on the Mekong :) . Nice to see another Sony V1 shot in the thread as well ;) .
