Sony A99: focus tracking, handling whites, resolution

Unread post by John David Cubit »

More testing of the Sony A99: how well does it track moving objects, handle bright whites, and resolve fine detail? This shot was made with the Sony 70-400 at 400mm, in natural light, at 1/2000th, ISO 640, and f8. The frame is partially cropped.

Very nice shot. I am curious to know how much of it is due to that fabulous lens and how much is due to camera.
Or is the combination that makes it so good.

Hi Sury,
I think the answer is the combo. My main concern is that the A99 can work with the lens as well as the A900 does. The better performance at high ISOs already gives the a A99 considerable edge, but this wouldn't mean much if it can't focus and set exposures as well the A900. I have month to make sure the A99 is worth it, so I'm trying it out under different conditions.

Very nice, John. : )

Many shades of colours and details with a neat action from the bird also.

Nice avatar too. I probably didn't notice that it was a bird shot too. : )

Thanks for sharing the experience.
