Thank you very much. It make a fellow feel good to get a compliment even if I don't know what I doing half of the time. I just took up photography a couple of years ago. I'd say any good photos are more luck than skill but I'm trying hard to change that.

Lucky you. At least you know what you are doing half the time unlike some of us (royal "us") who have no clue most of the time.

Valery, great colors. They almost look like paintings.

Nice car Keith. I was wondering if it would have been a better
shot without the driver and passenger given the backgroud.
Of course, there wouldn't be any motion. :)

Cars of Cali #1

Here is an oddball assortment of cars I've seen in and around Cali, Colombia presented in several posts

First is an Isuzu Trooper Pickup, only pickup version I've seen. The Isuzu products were and still are badged Chevrolet here. There are quite a few Troopers around because they were assembled in Colombia for a time.

Image

Don't know the year of this Suzuki but it is owned by an elderly couple who keep it in very good shape.

Image

Here's another Suzuki. It's the only pickup I've ever seen with the original bed. Pickup beds are almost always removed and replaced with stake beds as they hold more. In fact now you can by several pickup models as cab and chassis which can them be taken to the stake bed installer.

Cars of Cali #2

Russian Ladas and other brands from behind the Iron Curtain were actually traded for Colombian coffee in the 1970s

Image

A real odd duck, an East German Wartburg pickup. Probably has low compression as indicated by the rock behind the wheel.

A 1966 Hino Contessa in the old car parade...a Japanese Renault!

Cars of Cali #3

And speaking of French, a French couple on a world tour showed up at the Casa Blanca hostel in Cali in a German MAN 4x4 camper. Must have been pricy!

Image

Renault was the second foreign manufacturer to assemble cars in Colombia (British Austin was the first but they only assembled ton and a half trucks and two wheel drive jeeps neither of which could handle Colombian roads.) Renault's plant opened in the early seventies and their first offering was the Renault Master or 4. Somehow they did manage to hold up to the roads and there are still many around. Definitely must be tougher than it looks.

Image

French Simca was also assembled in Colombia for a time in a deal with Chrysler Corporation.
