You folks are most kind! Thank You.
Back home they had a saying that "even a blind squirrel can find a nut once in a while."

This is my very first attempt at HDR. Please give the good and bad. I'm thinking it's a little dark. Am I wrong?

OK Sury I redid this photo. You can faintly see into the windows. Is that what you meant?

Kenneth,
For me, HDR images are supposed to contain whiter to blacker or lighter to darker shades
than one would get from the camera. In that context, I would have seen a brighter sky as
well as at least a glimpse of what is inside the house.
It may very well that your settings are such that the "center" exposure shifted to left quite
a bit. What I see is a more contrasting image rather than HDR. None what I said matters if my
definition itself is flawed. And reassuringly, friends, guides and philosophers, on this forum
are there to enlighten me. :)

Thank you Sury. I'll give it another go tomorrow. I really don't know what I'm doing when it comes to HDR. That really shows don't it?

To me what it shows is that you have an image in your mind and trying to bring it out.
How about calling this one rev0?

Kenneth,
I believe so. I can see the inside of the house through the door and yet
the sky is not blown. What software/workflow you are using? Just curious.

The program is Photomatix Pro 5.0 (64bit)

By the way thanks for the help. This is all a little hard to figure out. I'm not sure what I'm doing most of the time.

Kenneth,
Thank you. Looks like a good piece of SW once you figure out the knobs and switches.

I used a freeware called Luminance HDR http://qtpfsgui.sourceforge.net/
Not very intuitive but it is free. To me it is also fun to discover. :D Here are two examples,
albeit may be of poor quality, using exposure bracketing and in camera HDR bracketing techniques.

I use the 5 image exposure bracket mode. Since HDR bracketing generates 3 images I thought
exposure bracketing with 5 may be better. Here is an example using Luminance HDR.

Here is an example using HDR bracketing in camera. I discovered recently after five years that you can actually get HDR bracketing in camera. This a 3 image bracket processed using Luminance HDR.

Usually I carry around 100GB in CF cards, and a 500GB portable drive to download daily. So I am less concerned about running out of storage. 8)

Thank you for the compliment! You folks sure make a beginner feel at home.

Sury, I downloaded your program but I'm having a little trouble figuring it out. I know I'm slow but with some practice I should figure it out. I was wondering if my a700 has the HDR capability you were talking about that your camera does?

I think the HDR effects in the above shots are subtle and don't over power the picture - they look fine to me. :)

Here is a non HDR shot in that I didn't combine images and use photomatix or anything like that. I did use LR to pull back highlights and lighten shadows, but I guess that is pretty standard stuff.

I liked the way the hedge and surrounding trees framed this view over the meadow, and it also shows off the May Blossom in the hedge at the other end of the field (see my shot in the Flower thread for a close-up).

Andy,
You are right about the framing. I like the "bluish" haze in the distance and am wondering
if filtering that out would make the landscape standout more. Just curious.
