You can read more about this "simple abode" that William Randolph Hearst built simply
because he was tired of sleeping in the tents when he camped there.

View from the castle looking westwards towards Pacific Ocean. The horizontal bar is the landing strip that
Hearst had laid out so that he can land his DC-3 plane when he visited. When he was constructing this structure,
he was actually had a castle being built in Wales and a manse for his wife in Hamptons, NY, according to our tour guide.
The Roman bath or indoor pool. The outdoor pool or neptune pool was under renovation.

Minimize avoidable sufferings - Sir Karl Popper
Re: Hearst Castle, San Simeon, California
I was wondering what I was looking at when I saw these appear on Flickr. Thanks for the explanation.
That indoor pool looks amazing. Just imagine the work and craftsmanship it took to build such a decor! Reminds me of El Alhambra or the Vatican museum.

Thanks Mark and the_hefay. The photos do not do justice to the opulence of the place.

Sorry for being late at the thread, but these are very nice shots and it's a great place. I love the third one especially, but you should straighten your shots!

Toni,
Thank you. It has been one of my Achilles's heal, not paying attention to aligning to horizon.
