Animals 2014

Unread post by RareTA »

I did a quick check and didn't find a post for animals of their own. If i messed up and doubled on one please combine them if it's possible.

Well I got a chance for an African safari. Maybe we just went to the Sioux Falls, South Dakota zoo.

This is one of the black Rhinos they have. I'll post more photos as I get them processed.

Hi Kenneth - I especially like the rhino coming towards the camera. There is a nice sense of jeopardy there :) .

It may look that way but there was a fence made of 8" steel pipe all around the enclosure. It looked alot like the fence in the movie Jurassic Park. Then there was a gap of 6 feet and they had a chain link fence to keep the people from getting to close. The fence made from the pipes had some large dents where you could see the rhinos had charge it.

I really wanted to get better tiger photos but he just layed there. Once in a while he picked up his head but didn't move at all. I stood there a long time and couldn't get him to move.

Good ones Kenneth. I liked the "charging" Rhino shot too. Well, what I learned about tigers is that
they spend most of their day sleeping or lazing around.

A few days ago I was at a seaport and right next to a huge ship that was docked there I looked down and there were dozens of jellyfish in the very clear water. In addition to these types there were hundreds of smaller box jellyfish. Since the water was so clear I could see that deeper down there were even more. These were maybe a foot or so under the surface.

Amazing shots Henry. They look like they were taken underwater! Much safer from where you were I think :)

Great contrast in colors Henry! As Andy said, better to shoot from above the water, not in it! Those tentacles look nasty.

Nice jelly fish shots Henry.

Valery, Looks like that bird found a small rodent for lunch. Any bird that eats rodents is okay in my book. What type of bird is it?
