Lovely monochrome pictures Jeff. In fact, there have been a lot of fabulous pictures posted over the last couple of weeks while I've been away. Keep 'em coming everybody :)

I have never seen sky that deep blue. Amazing colors, Ken.
The lonely building is a story by itself. Nicely captured.

Thanks Andy. Beautiful picture of the school. Abandonment and neglect. Where exactly is this building located? Looks like something you could see in Wyoming or Nebraska.

So many nice photos! We have been in Spain for the last week and are doing some traveling so I haven't had time to check out the forum here much lately.

That is truth in advertising Henry. I see red, I see rock and I see canyon.
Nice shot. From East of Sierra Nevada Mountains to West of Rockies is just amazing
landscape. EVEN I can get a good shot or two. :D

Henry, well done on the exposure considering the vast range of light intensity from the sky to the shadowy canyon floor. Excellent job restraining the highlights and bringing out the shadows. It reminds of a place I visited in Arizona a couple years back.

Thanks...for some reason I have gravitated to abandon buildings on the prairie. I just think if they could talk what a story they could tell. Maybe since we don't have the beautiful landscapes the states with mountains have. We are pretty flat out here. When I look at the photos you guys post makes me want to get to some of those locations.

Sury,

The sky was enhanced with PS. I'm doing an online course on PS & LR and the lesson was on darkening skies. I may have went overboard but for some weird reason I liked it that way.

Why make do with what you have? Make the best of what you have, is what me thinks.

Thanks for the explanation on sky.

You are close....It's in the middle of North Dakota about 40 miles east of Bismarck along the interstate.

North Dakota isn't far from places in Utah, Arizona, and Nevada where you can see stupendous, huge rock formations. I don't know your personal circumstances, but if you can then I recommend a road trip for at least a couple of weeks around those areas since you have the desire to go. I think you will not regret it. I have been on many long road trips lasting from 2 weeks to 9 weeks around the U.S., mostly in the West. For example, in 1999 and 2009 we made 9-week road trips driving 12,000-13,000 miles (19,000-21,000 kilometers) on each trip. It is fun to hit the road and these days with websites such as hotels.com and orbitz.com it is easier to book hotel/motel rooms as you go along. Most places have wifi now so just take a laptop and/or tablet with you.

We have been through the north west just haven't made it more south yet. I was just trying to learn the camera then and took most photos in full auto. We are talking about a trip to the southwest this August though. We did go to California and Mexico a long long time ago. We just drove through the south west to get there. I didn't get into photography till about 4 years ago when I got my first Sony DSLR. Now I'm trying to make up for lost time. As I get better with the camera and learn more functions I want to find better landscapes to shoot. I just this spring started to shoot in full manual so you folks have a huge jump on me since I suspect you guys have been photographing a lot longer and properly trained.
