he was reluctant to play himself he wanted Tony Curtiss to play him but was talked into it. Nearest British actor got to that was Richard Todd in longest day he played the air born glider troops commanding officer capturing Pegesus Bridge, Todd really did take part in the actual operation. Thanks for posting.
