Oregon Coast

After helping to move my older granddaughter into the dorm for her Freshman year of college in Portland, Oregon, I drove home via the cost of Oregon and Northern California. It's a drive I have done multiple times, but I always enjoy the scenery.

On this occasion, near Gold Beach I encountered fog moving in around 4 to 5 in the afternoon, which I did not expect so early during August.

I think that this one is my favorite of the images that I shot while the general lighting was still bright and most of the colors vivid.

I shot some additional images later, and also the next morning before the fog lifted. I think I like those better when converted to Black & White in an attempt to match the feel of the atmosphere.

As it happens, all of the images below were shot with my Minolta 135mm lens, using a LA-EA2 adapter on my NEX-6. Some of the color images above were shot with the NEX-6, and some with my A6000.

The first and third in the B&W series are my favorites, Tom.

That is part of the reason I drive the Oregon Coast (and some of the coast of Northern California) whenever I have a reason to be in that area with a little free time. I live on the coast of Southern California, and enjoy the scenery here, but there is something special about the coast in that area.

For some reason, I don't see as many surfers along that coast as I do here.

See any hints in the photos as to why this might be?

Excellent black and white treatment.

.

A very challenging coastline, Tom.

Good opportunities for the photographers indeed if not for athletic intentions. Those rocks protruding from the water surface and the shape-shifting fog add to the danger-evoking spell of the scenery.

Nicely captured.

Thanks for sharing,

I have been in love with this coastline since we first drove along it in stormy weather in 1967, and I have returned several times.

Here are two renditions of another image that I took on my drive along the coast a few weeks ago.

I originally thought that it should be a black and white image, but I now lean toward the color version.

The color version is nice, but the BW is my favorite. Nice shots.

Both beautiful pictures,Tom. I like the sense of drama in the B&W, but the green of the dune grass in the colour version helps balance the foreground for me so I'm leaning toward the colour version more.

I'm for version 1.0 (first, BW).
