The air under the street lights on the street must be laden with moisture, I would guess.

Love the street shots Valery. Especially the first one.

Here's the night sky in small town Wyoming.

.

Beautiful street shots, ValeryD. :)
The mist and the rain-soaked streets with busy traffic look very nice.

Thanks for sharing.

Apparently, small town Wyoming is witness to the biggest truth that we are part of, our galaxy, The Milky Way. :)

Very nicely taken, Jeff. Thanks for sharing.

Jeff, Fantastic. I am reading up on how to take starry night shots on my upcoming trip to Chile in December.
Any tips or recommendations?

Sury,
I know I am the wrong Jeff but YouTube is a treasure trove of information about this very topic.
You need a fast wide prime, a solid tripod, remote trigger or set the timer, and no or minimal light pollution. Then you need to time the moon (rising or setting, preferably new moon phase). Southern hemisphere is best for viewing the milky way so you have that going for you. Then you can research post production tips because you will need them.
Best of luck.

JB,
Thank you. When it comes sought information, all Jeffs would do.
Will start watching the Youtube. The widest I have is 24/2 and that would
give me approximately 20sec based on 1/500th rule. As it turns out, the days
we are at Atacama are around full moon (I am bummed) but a week before we will
be on Easter Island and hoping to get lucky there in terms of dark night.

Sury, I like using 15 sec for a still of the stars. It just helps reduce the star movement. Wide is your best bet. I use the Toking 11-16mm @ 11mm and f/3.2 and iso 800. Light pollution can be a problem at times. The yellow glow at the bottom of the Milky Way in my photo is due to a city of only 50,000 about 50 miles away. A bright moon makes it difficult so shooting closer to a new moon or while the moon is not visible.

You're certainly welcome, but remember, I'm no expert in astro photography. Like JB said, YouTube is a friend. I did all my post-processing in LR on this particular photo. I think I could've done better with the foreground in PS.

Jeff,
I took the advise of JB and input from you. Watched Youtube on taking photos and post processing. I took the liberty of using your photo to experiment in LR. I sincerely apologize if I took undue liberty in experimenting with your photo without your prior consent. Please let me know and I will remove the post. My intent is only to demonstrate what I learned.

With best regards,
Sury

Excellent shots, even enviable, I just do not have enough time for everything to shoot at night.

The image I linked to was taken with the RX1. That has a 35mm f2.0. That is about the maximum focal length you would want to use. The 24mm should be fine. It's always about composition. Light painting the foreground is something I hope to try. Already bought the flashlight.
