Hi, Jeff,

Beautiful Andes with starlit night skies. Very soothing to look at and observe.
I'm curious as to what's going on in the second photo; why is the horizon so bright white/what's that light's source and is it icy water that has pieces of ice floating in the shallow water ?

Lots of great photos here. Here is one in Rothenburg ob der Tauber, Germany in 2005. Used the KM 7D + Sigma 18-125mm f3.5-5.6.

Hi Yildiz. Thanks for the comments. In regards to the last one, the white on the horizon is the lights from the large city of Arequipa, in the lowlands beyond the mountains. The water is a very shallow "dead" lake. That is, it doesn't have any way for the water to leave. It is a salt lake or rather a borax lake. However, they are not biologically dead, as the flamingos are always wading across it and eating something that grows there. These types of lakes are very common in this part of the mountains.

JT, awesome link. Atacama is just south of here. Looks like I need to just carry my photo gear back up and make a timelapse.
