Concert Pics`

Unread post by jbtaylor »

Attended a Kansas concert Friday evening. Restrictions on cameras are as follows:
No professional cameras (a meaningless restriction given modern technology).
No detachable lens cameras.
Lens cannot extend more than 3 inches beyond the body.
No flash photography.

So I took the RX1. The perfect crime.

No crop

All shot at iso 4000.

After being down on the RX1 after the auto show shoot, I must say that in this circumstance it performed as well as could be expected. Great resolution even after cropping.

.

You captured the stage lights and the band just right, JBTaylor. :)
All are great and as a preference the second is really intriguing with so much going on with the lights and the visuals…

Thanks for sharing. Good photos with RX1.

Once resigned to a fixed focal length, lighting and composition is all you have left. 50mm may have worked. Same goes for a 24mm. The 35mm of the RX1 seemed just about right for where I was sitting.
Building on the last discussion of multiple cameras and lenses, I bet the RX100V with it's zoom capabilities may have been a better answer (even with the smaller sensor).

Nice shots JT. Especially the second and third. So did you find megapixels useful?

As I alluded to above, cropping a 24 megapixel sensor for this format leaves plenty of resolution.
The RX1 intrigued me from the day it was released. The innovative design and the fact that it used the same sensor as the a99 made it an obvious 2nd camera choice (albeit an expensive choice). Glad I bought it (used), and will keep it more for sentimental than practical reasons.
