Southampton Shipping

Unread post by Ossie »

Last Sunday and my first trip of the year to the port at Southampton. It was a beautiful day and the port was busy with 5 cruise ships and 3 containerships alongside and so there was plenty for me to photograph. Here are some of my images

Very nice, Ossie.

Good ship and port activity photos, not to mention good compositions.

The small boat in front of the ship is the M/V Alison MacGregor. It is run by a charity, Solent Dolphin, to take disabled people on tours around the port and vicinity of Southampton Water. It is named after a young woman who was killed in a 1988 rail disaster at Clapham (London). Her parents responded to an appeal by the charity by making a large donation to help fund the original boat.

Very nice set Ossie. The B&W is my favorite of this set. Interesting story about M/V Alison MacGregor.

Sury

Thank you. The mono conversion is my favourite image of that day too.

Ossie, could you post the color version, if you don't mind please? I want to see if the
skies are as dramatic in the color version.

Hi Sury

Happy to post the original but I am at an airport leaving on vacation and will not have access to my computer for several weeks. I don't know if it will help but the fourth image is of the same vessel and was taken just a short time before the mono image.

.

In the fourth shot, the rippling water acquires almost a silvery or mercury quality… :)

Thanks for sharing, Ossie.
