Thoughts?

Price seems to have jumped quite a lot over the Mk II (even initial price)
Some Canon folks are rioting over the "not enough pixels point"
I suppose you can't have it both ways too many pixels or not enough

I thought the new flash was quite interesting (ala radio control)

Some userers are not at all happy about the pixel count, true, whilst a fair proportion are happy; the biggest bugbear appears to be the the price - http://www.canonrumors.com/forum/index.php/topic,3802.0.html. Glad I'm not a camera designer!

Overall it looks as though it has worthwhile improvements over the Mk11 without being earthshattering.....

I agree about the flash - great features, but what about the price?!?

Looks like a very impressive camera, and they didn’t go berserk with MP’s, maybe Sony should get one (and the new radio flash) and see if they can get any good ideas.
I see there is a thread at dpr (Sony SLR) with over a hundred posts comparing the 5D MkIII with the non existent A99….which I didn’t open so I don’t know exactly what is being discussed at the moment.

Yes I think most complaints are about price it's a significant hike over the Mk II

From the bit of the dpreview preview I read it seems the 5DIII was upgraded to a 7D-like body, AF, etc. so that probably was the justification for the price jump just as when the 7D came out it was more expensive than the earlier 50D. I am not interested though at the 5DII price or the 5DIII price.
