Forum stopped sending emails for updated threads?

Unread post by bakubo »

Sometime recently something changed. It happened while I was traveling in Nepal so I just noticed it in the last few days. Before I would get an email when a thread I had participated in got updated, but those emails have stopped. I checked the control panel and it says emails will be sent, but they have stopped. Is it only me or has it stopped for everyone?

Is everyone else still getting an email when a thread is updated?

Actually, I switched that to off a long long time ago.

Yes, if you switch it off then it is expected that you would not get any emails.

I am wondering if people, like me, who have it switched on suddenly stopped receiving emails in the last month or so?

probably your email provider is filtering those emails as spam?

Thanks! That was it. I have checked the spam folder several times and there weren't any there, but I checked again a few minutes ago and there were a whole bunch and many were pretty old. I scratched my head trying to figure out why I didn't see them when I had checked earlier. Then I realized that earlier I had inexplicably checked the trash folder and not the spam folder. I still don't know though why gmail suddenly awhile back started classifying these emails as spam and for years before it hadn't. Thanks again!

The benefit of Win 7 security system maybe? or system security update patches perhaps, MS is really suspicious of email messages I think.

I am not clear on how any of that would have any effect on what gmail does? Does gmail use the local computer's OS security to decide what goes in the spam folder? If so, how does that work?

No, the problem is Gmail.

If you keep tossing out e-mails w/o reading them (you see the topic and already know what's inside), the Gmial will count them eventually as spam.

You can set a filter so that none of them are ever sent to spam, if you like.

I thought everything that comes in through the firewall is ‘vetted’ now and bagged and tagged, but gmail might have awarded itself special dispensation perhaps, just thinking out loud here Henry Dusty could be on the money, I don’t know anything about gmail.

I have set filters, and yet I still get some mails in the Spam folder.

The last part of setting filter has a "Never send to spam" checkbox.
