I accidentally stumbled over this one, http://books.google.com.au/books?id=NJS ... &q&f=false a true story apparently, members of the Wehrmacht helped the outnumbered US army defend some prisoners listed for execution AGAINST the Waffen SS in the final hours of WWII.
Truth can be stranger than fiction. :shock:

It does sound like ideal grist to the Hollywood mill Greg :) .
