Books

Unread post by harvey »

Can anyone suggest good books on the following topics:
  • Camera Lens design
  • DSLR sensor and image processing technology
A quick look at Amazon threw up these...

Lens Design Fundamentals, Rudolf Kingslake
Applied Photographic Optics, Third Edition, Sidnay Ray
Image Sensors and Signal Processing for Digital Still Cameras, Junichi Nakamura

I'm thinking of something at 1st or 2nd year University level.

These are not the sort of books that will be in my local bookshops.

Sindey Ray's book is very accessible, clearly explained. I don't know anything much about university levels, Sidney's book was always just a standard work on optics. I knew him and commissioned a couple of articles from him back when he was a prominent FIIP FRPS photographic educator and technical expert.

The others, no idea. My library of books includes some rather older classics like Dallmeyer's own 'Telephoto Lenses', which sets out many of the principles on which later teles and zoom lenses were eventually designed - 1920s vintage.

Please don't do what I did, purchased a book on E Bay for £1 plus £5.50 postage, the title, Fundamentals of Optic Design. It wasn't until I recieved the book that I found it to be about spirit dispensers.
