70-200 f2.8G

Unread post by Greg Beetham »

Someone at DPR has posted that he saw lens listing at a Sony Style store (in Canada) that the 70-200 f2.8G was to be discontinued, has anyone heard of this? .......if this is true it is big news.
David K. have you heard anything?

No, but if they do plan to discontinue the 70-200mm, we may have a better explanation as to what the mystery fast tele zoom in the new line up is. Not an 80-400mm, perhaps just a 70-210mm direct replacement.

This lens is such a great lens and to think it would be discontinued is rather dissapointing. Unless, that is, the replacement covers more range with same or better aperture, same or better bokeh, and build quality. I use this lens more often than any other lens in my collection and plan on getting a teleconverter for it in the next few months. As of right now the latest "G" offering is quite dissapointing. Being that with the 70-200G + teleconverter you can acheive the same f-stop penalty as the new lens but gain an extra 100mm with the 70-200G.
Have a great day!
