Cosina lens for Sony?

Unread post by BruceofOz123 »

Just taken delivery of three A 580's - now looking around for lenses - found this online:
Cosina Brand 4.5 to 6.7 MC 100-400mm AF
. Says it has been used on a Minolta & might fit a Sony? Only $150 so I bought it. Anyone rolling on the floor laughing?
Cheers Bruce

No,it was a cheap alternative to Minolta's lens at the time. Not wonderful wide open at 400mm, but nor is anything, not even the 70-400mm G. However, use the G at 6.7 and of course it is....

Looking on the web Bruce it seems that lens comes in a variety of names, Vivitar, Cosina, Phoenix, Promaster etc. I’m not sure who actually makes it; there was someone at alphamountworld http://www.alphamountworld.com/forums/s ... 008-9/1543 who bought one and the gears stripped during the first use on an A100, so it may not turn out to be very reliable.
Photographically speaking it will probably be a case of 'you gets what you pays for'...but post a couple of shots with it anyway so we can have a look.
