Sigma 180mm Macro ?

Unread post by A99user »

Hi all,
I'm thinking of buying a Sigma 180mm 2.8 macro for use on my a99 and wonder if anyone out there has used this combination,I do a LOT of macro work on insects of all types and a lot of Salticidae (Jumping spiders) most of which are in the 2 to 6mm range, www.flickr.com/photos/doc44 ,I have other Sigma lenses so know the quality is fine, but mostly use a 100mm 2.8 Sony, Thanks,Ron

I thought I am getting this one as previous Minolta/4 has been far too expensive. However, for the same sharpness, you can get a 180/3.5 from Sigma or Tamron or you can use the smaller version 150//2.8 OS. I really love the weight and size of 150mm which has become almost a standard lens on my D800.

I'm not a big fan of Sigma but Sigma 180 is a GREAT lens. IMO don't think twice.
