SAR - "Under development" full frame FE 24-240

Unread post by mikeriach »

And surprise, surprise, here we all are with A mount bodies and no handy travel companion. :(
I'm getting a little frustrated. The alternative is the new Tamron 28-300 but it's not out yet. :x

I managed to get a 28-105 for the cost of postage but it lacks the range I want (minimum 200mm).

All my Sony SLT gear gone. Still got my RX100 though.

Would you really want f/6.9 or whatever the long end of this will be? 1.4X converter on a 70-210mm would be better!

What I was after was a 24 or 28 to something which extended to around 200. The 300 is a bonus but I don't expect to use it much if at all. It's for travel where I don't carry a bag, just the camera.

For my aircraft shots I have all the lenses I need and some I don't so I expect to carry on with my stock clearance like yourself. The A580 was snapped up as was the 55-200. I still need to keep a set of something for the wife to use as well. She likes the A77 so it has the Sony 18-250 on it most of the time though she uses the short end the most.

I consider the best investment in lenses I ever made to be the 70-400G, it must have taken at least 60% of my shots this year. Bought it pre-order before the prices went up, certainly got my monies worth out of that one.

I suspect the lens will be fairly heavy and being honest I'm not a fan of super zoom lenses esp not full frame either esp not after using the Tokina 24-200mm it wasn't overly impressive.

24/28-105mm is OK for full frame above that just look at a telephoto lens. That's why crop bodies can be handy the 18-135mm give you the 27-200mm range you might want and it's not massively compromised optically either, nor overly large/heavy. The words full frame and superzoom don't really mix that well IMO

Although not "FE", you could try the Sony APS-C SEL18200. On full frame cameras it will give 150mm, and, with the APS-C framing disabled, will provide a good square image capture. The quality of the images is very good so can be 'enlarged' easily.
Kit: all Sony now:
