I wan't sure in which forum to post this note They are digital, but certainly not slr so this seemed the best bet!
http://forums.dpreview.com/forums/readf ... d=35282174 A couple of links to reviews posted here.
An interesting return to the all metalic body.
Pleasantly surprised by the flipable rear LCD.
So what is the crop factor of the E mount? >1.5 and <2?
I want one !

Re: Nex reviews hit the streets
It's an APS-C sized sensor, so 1.5x crop.
I'm pretty tempted myself. I have no budget for a new dSLR to replace my A700 but would be interested in a high quality go-anywhere camera. My LX-3 would have to go of course...

Re: Nex reviews hit the streets
A few days ago David said something about possibly going to some sort of Sony announcement, but he was having trouble with the travel plans. Did he go? Is he there now? I don't think I have seen a post from him in a few days.

Re: Nex reviews hit the streets
The geek in me woke up early and so here I am again checking for the latest news. Our friends at Sonyalpharumours seem to have a good list of links.
http://sonyalpharumors.com/continually- ... announced/
CNET are not that impressed, Imaging Resource seem to like it more.
It seems much smaller than the Pany GF1 and Oly Pens.
Great that they have included a flash in the box.
If you can't AF with alpha mount lenses why have Sony been bringing out the SAM versions?
Pricing seems to be similar in dollars to Pany and Oly.

They have this adaptor, but given it's not AF and the sensor is not stabilized, what is it for?
I cannot consider this as compatible, it's really something new, so I could also buy a Panasonic or Olympous. No real advantage for Alpha DSLR users.

Looks interesting, though I'm still concerned about the shape - but man, it makes the pen look huge!
As for SAM, is it tying up for the video in the Alpha range?

Re: Nex reviews hit the streets
My thoughts exactly - if the lenses don't AF then there is little to make you stick with Sony rather than also consider Oly/Pany etc. I guess dslr enthusiasts are not their target customer But I am not convinved that the apparent target, the "P&S upgraders", really want to change lenses (or even care that much about IQ etc.), just too much fiddling about for P&S people I know. (Nothing about cleaning the sensors yet?)bossel wrote:They have this adaptor, but given it's not AF and the sensor is not stabilized, what is it for?

The NEX 5 does look like nice though with those big metal lenses I am reminded of the F717 and F828, and R1 I suppose. And Sony do have the "we're smallest" edge. I look forward to hearing what DK says.

DK's initial comments are up on the main site in case you forgot to check like me

Re: Nex reviews hit the streets
Don't care much about AF. I do care about release without lens though. I hope DK thinks to try this

Re: Nex reviews hit the streets
The Sony adapter doesn't support (yet?) AF but it has all the mechanism ready for control the aperture of the lens -There is no adapter (other the one Olympus and Panasonic provides) that allows you that on the m4/3 system.Birma wrote: My thoughts exactly - if the lenses don't AF then there is little to make you stick with Sony rather than also consider Oly/Pany etc.
I hope they will fix more compatibility issues, like wireless flash...
