I was out and about at an airfield yesterday and shot 510 frames on a fresh Sony battery with an end of life remaining of 48%.
I have always been sceptical of the reported battery usage reports but I have now seen it for myself.
This was used exclusively with a 70-400G with a reasonable amount of reviewing but no flash over a period of about 10 hours.
I am also very pleased with the performance of the new lens.

A700 battery life
All my Sony SLT gear gone. Still got my RX100 though.
Re: A700 battery life
That seems exceptionally good battery performance. Were you recording Jpeg or Raw (or both!)?
Pleased that you like the new lens, it's a real corker, worth every penny

If so I'm the other chap with an A700+70-400 G.

Philip,
All shot on jpg at highest resolution.
Not a big fan of raw due to the time needed for processing which I don't have to spare.
Heidfirst,
Yup I was that other wet person at the end of the Kinloss runway.
I'll post a couple of samples shortly.
