Always worth reading.

What I would like to see in Sony's new flagship camera...

Nex 5, Nex 6 (IR), A7M2, A99 and a bunch of lenses.

Ok I don't have a reputation for holding back on my views so don't be offended with the gloves coming off.
That's the biggest load of doggie-doo I've ever read in my long internet reading history.

Apart from asking Sony to ignore OVF users, Kirk is having a brain drain of the highest order. Sony have dumped their entire OVF range none are in production so why feel the need to ask that they ignore OVF users again? Exactly when were they taking their views into account?

Leaving that aside the "If Sony are listening" bit was close to hilarious..as if a blog post is going to sway Sony in any way.
Other comical moments are asking for a headphone jack (hey wake up it's a camera!) The rest is just fanboy dribble IMO

BTW I've no problems with him having a view on things everyone can do that. When you actually make a post asking a company to ignore a notable number of users because you like something, it's time to get a new one torn and I'll happily do that. Kirk should stick to taking photos, he's a lot better at that than blog posts.

I always get a kick out of someone explaining how their still camera could be improved for video taking, sheesh Sony all you have to do is make the thing with a really large power supply to feed all the extras properly and move the add on $400 external sound mixer inside the body and some headphone jacks plus sound balancing controls and indicators, I mean what were you thinking Sony? every still camera should have that at the least.
And while you’re on the job what about an add on external hard drive for direct storage, (fits on the bottom of the add on larger battery power grip that costs only $1500 with batteries) that shouldn’t add more than another $400-600 to the price and not even double the weight…but hey no sacrifice is too great for the perfect still camera. 8)
Now all we need for a complete still camera system (once the heat dissipation is overcome, but might need an add on thermal control unit $1000-2000) is to make a few A-mount versions of those specialist $20,000 Zeiss video lenses and people will be knocking your door down…I wonder if the video division will notice? Probably not, I think they are busy trying to figure out how to convert a video camera into a still camera.

"Born again" are called those guys on this side of the Atlantic (and is not about the Black Sabbath album at all)

I actually thought that Greg Beetham exaggerated a bit above but perhaps he forgot to indicate "sarc/off" at the end.
The punch line was added to the Kirk Tuck write-up yesterday
Sunday edit: It's' coming quicker than we all thought. According to actual people in the know the camera will be called the a99. It will be announced next week. I missed the guess on sensors, it will be a 36 megapixel camera and it will most definitely be a fixed mirror SLT design. Get this: 12 FPS in raw. Sadly, no carbon fiber... ISO 100-4,000 (rational thinking prevails..)
So if he is right it will be a D800 competitor with the same basic sensor. The buffer will certainly need to be much larger than the A77. Not sure why ISO should stop at 4,000 considering that the A77 goes to 10,000.

Yep alphaomega it was probably overly sarcastic in tone, but there is a touch of reality there I think, what’s the point of all those extra electronic ‘features’ if you have to turn some of them off to save the battery? They are no use whatsoever if you end up turning them off anyway. And more than that, SLR’s are supposed to be responsive i.e. they turn off when you turn them off and turn on when you turn them on AND are ready to take a shot immediately, (like my three old cameras do), why are we progressing backwards when it comes to responsiveness?
And then there is of course my pet hate ‘video’ it’s because of video that cameras (especially EVF ones) are so power consuming and are now so electronicky, video stuffed into a still camera system is very basic video compared to what can be achieved with a high quality video camera, so I’d hazard a guess that not many bother with it after an initial experiment or two, unless you happen too like silent movies with bad composition, or un-silent movies with strange noises…and bad composition…take your pick.
My main point is similar as too why I don’t particularly care for the NEX style cameras, you have to start adding things (especially so with video in a SLR style camera, just look at all the video related add-ons you can get for the Canon 5DMkII http://www.google.com.au/search?q=canon ... 5&bih=1075 in an attempt to make it into some kind of useful video cam, and what do you end up with after spending all that additional money?) if you want to get some functionality and even then they just don’t measure up either in user interface, ergonomics or responsiveness but then I guess the latest SLT isn’t very responsive either when it comes to something as basic as turning on or off and also prone too glitches/compatibility issues? So it’s not just the NEX that attempts to be jack of all trades and master of none.
I’d say we can expect more of the same in the future and we only have ourselves to blame, if people keep buying them…they’ll keep making them.

Maybe add a solar panel attachment to the hot shoe to trickle charge the battery......

Mike (tongue in cheek)
All my Sony SLT gear gone. Still got my RX100 though.

Great suggestion Mike, I was scratching my head over what was missing from most of the add on tackle for the Canon 5DMkII and that’s what it was, a solar panel, it could double up as an operator sun shade because it would need to pump out a reasonable amount of juice…but great idea, (it might not work too good at night but hey, omelette-egg…egg-omelette).
