New Firmwares for a77, NEX-7, a65

Unread post by Dr. Harout »

Already installed and is OK.
Movie button lock is fine.

What I've noticed:
1- After installing the previous version (1.05) way back then, the AF Micro Adjustment button was set to Off.
2- Whenever mounting the SAL24F20Z (or any other lens) you couldn't make changes with micro adjustments. You had to clear all data (to all lenses) and then make adjustments.

Now, I notice that,
1- The Micro Adjustment is set to On.
2- Mounted the SAM30M28 (which I had made no changes to previously) and it showed +/- 0
3- Mounted my 2/24 and it was reset to +/- 0 from a previous adjustment to -3 (Obviously, since it's a reset)... However, when I checked, on first glance (i.e. test) there is no necessity to adjust it again :? (can someone explain why and how?). Anyway, I have to make some real tests these couple of days.

Not on the USA site until tomorrow I guess. The movie lock will be nice I tend to hit it every time I open the screen.
A65 16mm-50mm 2.8
Tamron 72E 90mm 2.8 Macro
Sony 35mm 1.8 Sony
Sony 55-300mm and 55-200mm

My mind is a raging torrent, flooded with rivulets of thought cascading into a waterfall of creative alternatives.

They work fine for all regions apparently.

The reason you may not need a micro adjustment now is because Sony may, for example, have found that all 24mm f/2 lenses require -3, and altered the initially loaded lens table accordingly.

Firmware updates for all cameras, even those where the AF correction is not user adjustable, may improve focus accuracy with specific lenses as they contain lens data the camera uses.

The firmware greatly improves the black cut-off level precision for Nex7 raw. It results in cleaner shadows with far less tint there. Now Nex7 shadows always look as good or better than Nex5N's.

You may see if you refresh our page that I have added Alpha 65 main firmware update, and also lens compatibility updates for the NEX-6 and NEX-5R.

The A37 update has not appeared on the UK site yet but one is known to be on the way.

I found that the micro-focus adjustment was reset to zero for all lenses after the upgrade I had taken the precaution of noting down the values before I did the upgrade. Having put them all back in I have had time to check the 16-80CZ, the 50mm f1.7 Minolta, the 28-75mm KM, a very old pre-digital Tamron 90mm macro and the 70-300G. There is no perceptible change from the previous values.
No more video clips of my feet and the inside of my camera bag - it was worth it just for that. I can't say that I have noticed any other effects.
