Garden Visitor

This little chap (or chapess) was wandering about the garden this lunchtime. Obviously too inexperienced to know it's meant to be a nocturnal creature! Had to rush out with the beercan for a couple of shots. The Hedgehog was quite unphased by me crawling around the lawn with it.
Both shots F6.3, ISO800 with Min 70/210 F4.
1/500 @75mm, crop of the out of camera JPG
1/320 @120mm, crop of the out of camera JPG
C&C welcome as always. ISO800 looks ok to me, but I may be wrong
. I tried some PP, but the camera's jpg's just looked better to me.
(No C&C on the lawn please - I know it needs mowing!)

Ok no lawn jokes... but it looks like your lawnmower blade needs sharpeing
Nice captures. There probably not that shy. porcupines aren't either and we have a oot of those here. They don't even run away. they just sort of saunter

I live in the countryside and put food out last autumn for them but this one turned up mid afternoon so I had to snap him/her.
Peered out one night and there were three of them snuffling away

I love hedgehogs. Few days ago I found a dead one in the wild part of my garden. Was too late for an autopsy

The second one works well for me, the composition I mean. On the first one, it's cropped very tightly and I'd prefer a bit more space around it (esp. to the right). But then, maybe just my monitor is too small

I agree, Bossel, I have tried to give more nose room to #1.
(Life is too short for sharpening lawn mower blades

That made a nice diference. what did you do crop differently or did you add some grass to the frame?

The second attempt was 800 pixels wide which seems to display better, and I re-cropped with a tiny bit more grass just to make sure I got the nose in. It looks ok in Photobucket at 1000 wide (the original). I'll just make sure I scale down a bit further in future for use here.
I wonder if the Hedgehog will come back today?
