Hahnel battery charger - NEX, Alpha, mobile

Unread post by David Kilpatrick »

After leaving our battery charger and spare batteries behind on Sunday, I found a Hahnel Ultima II battery charger for Sony in Jessops - not cheap at £34.95 but -

Specific to Sony, no changing pins or carriers in complex ways
One carrier works for the NP50 and NP500 size batteries (Alpha 100 to 900, small one for NEX, Alpha 55 etc)
One hour charge and it genuinely does - very rapid
Plugs in, no cables, light for travel
Comes with USA, European and UK plugtops
Provides 5v USB charger socket for mobile phones, iPad etc
Comes with car charger cable

Overall - very impressed. One single charger now can be left in suitcase for travel.

Sounds good, I'm a bit annoyed over the long charge time with the Sony charger - especially since I currently only own one battery for the A700.

Thanks for the tip David.

Best deal I could find seems to be Harrison Cameras at £26.99 + £2.50 or £3 postage:

Do you know if they ship to Sweden and how much it would cost? Don't want to create an account just to find out...
Think Amazon charges about £20 just for p+p

Thanks in advance!

Re: Hahnel battery charger - NEX, Alpha, mobile

Warning - don't buy this! Jessop provided it when I asked when charger would do both NEX and Alpha, 50 and 500 batteries. I also read the small print and saw FM50 and FM500. But the NEX is FW50 not FM50 and it doesn't fit - and Andy has emailed Hahnel and they say there is no plate for the NEX.

Annoyed because the charger I have bought is now not much use except as a car charger for the Alpha batteries and I already had something which could do that - I bought it because it would, as I thought, do NEX. That's what I asked for and the sales assistant advised the Hahnel instead of their own multi-battery charger. I can's see any easy way of adapting it to fit NEX and from their reply to Andy, I would doubt they will bother to make a plate for it.

Sorry!

David
