NEX 7 Day One

Unread post by cosmonaut1959 »

I went out this afternoon with the NEX 7 and lenses. The camera really performed like expected. The AF was a big improvement over the 5N. Not close to the a77 but still much faster than the 5n. The menu is still complicated and hard to navigate. But once you get the camera set up with the custom buttons it makes life a lot easier. The thumb wheels at the top are a dream come true. I can finally shot in manual with the ease of a K1000. The EVF is pretty much the same as the a77.
The LCD will blink some when the lens hunts as well as the image in the finder. I never have been big on the dial on the back that goes for the Pens as well. I always seem to be knocking settings off. I'll turn around and I will be at 1000 ISO. I wish they made it a little harder turn.
I am still learning the camera if there is any questions or if you can think of anything you want me to try or look at please feel free to ask. Here are a few pictures from this afternoon. All shot in RAW processed in Lightroom, resized in CS4.
I am really happy with the camera and it's going to make a nice addition to go along with the a77. I hope this upgrade last me a few years.

Thanks for the pictures and offer to answer questions.
I currently own the NEX-5 upgraded to v.5 and NEX lenses 16mm, W/A converter, 18-55 and 55-210mm zooms. I have also purchased the LA-EA2 mostly for use with my Sony 18-250mm.
I plan to purchase a NEX-7 body only in the spring and my main interest is the IQ produced by the above lenses in front of a 24Mp sensor as opposed to my NEX-5 and A580. I notice images using the 16mm and fish eye converter as well as 18-55 and Tamron 18-250mm. I would very much welcome your comments on how the SONY NEX lenses perform on the NEX-7 and also any Alpha fit lenses you may have. Aparta from the Tamron I also use CZ 16-80, Tamron 10-24 and Tamron (new) 70-300 zoom. Do you use the LA-EA1 or 2? I have acquired the LA-EA2 and preliminary results indicate that it works well with my Sony 18-250mm on my NEX-5.
Ideally I would like a "NEX-6" comprising the NEX-7 with the NEX-5N sensor but it is probably beyond Sony to work out that might be a seller.

Other than the Tamron I have the Sony 16-50mm and the Sony11-18mm. I only have the LA-EA1 and the Tamron hunted but never focused. I had to swith to MF. I don't think I can AF at all with the LA-EA1 and 11-18mm combo. You howevr will be completely different from me as the new converter is a much better design I read.
