A quick trawl on Amazon discovers various screen shades said to fit NEX, none of them much good by the look of it but - most important - none apparently capable of fitting over the Sony's own screen protector - which I wouldn't be without by any manner of means!

And then there's this, discovered on a wider search! A combined protector and shade, brilliantly simple, simply brilliant, But UK - or any - retail stockists I cannot find.

David - or anyone - can you help?

Many thanks

Loads on eBay, incorporate the protector and the hood.

UK, £6.99, includes clear protector and folding hood.

I have a JJC brand hood like that. It's ok, but for bright sun, I could use something more... And I found it for about $20. It has one part that screws into the tripod socket. The other is a viewfinder that blocks out all light, magnifying the rear display. It's not an EVF add-on, but it's not bad!

David thankyou. Looking carefully I think these are in fact on Amazon - at more than double the price - but the specification there does not in any way make clear that the hood includes a screen protector.

Vidgamer, can you supply a link? A search under 'JJC hood' simply brings up a 'mini-shade' as above.

Cheers all!

Yeah, JJC is the flip up hood.

I think this is the one I got:

No screen protector, but it encloses the screen when you have it on.

Now that my "tru black" coating has about worn off, I don't worry about screen protection. :?

I purchased one of these screens+hoods from the E-Bay supplier David identified. It arrived swiftly, and well packed. Here's some feedback. It comprises a Sony original clear plastic screen protector (or at least etched 'Sony' in one corner) and a black plastic spring-loaded hood - presumably of third-party manufacture - which click-fits over the protector, and can be removed again without much difficulty. It works very well, the best £5.00 or so I've spent in quite a while! The interesting bit is that although the protector appears identical to the one I purchased for my original issue Nex5 18 months ago, in fact on close inspection the lugs are slightly fatter. Accordingly the hood is unusable with the original screen - too loose a fit. The message must therefore be, for anyone after one of these, a hood alone may or may not clip securely over your existing screen, best buy a screen+hood combo.
