Zeiss Vario-Tessar T * E 16-70mm F4 ZA OSS for NEX APS-C

Unread post by alphaomega »

Finally a SR5 rumour from SAR on the much awaited quality mid range zoom for NEX APS-C
http://www.sonyalpharumors.com/sr5-16-7 ... el-sensor/
Zeiss Vario-Tessar T * E 16-70mm F4 ZA OSS
- Filter diameter of 55mm
- Has OSS(!)
So we may be seeing a worthwhile standard zoom for NEX APS-C cameras, a kind of slightly shorter NEX version of the A mount Sony/CZ 16-80 but with a fixed F4. Sounds good to me and I will probably buy one if it produces "the goods" and is not too large and combersome.
Personnally not interested in any of the other products. I might consider selling my NEX-5N for an upgraded NEX-6 with a 20Mp sensor.

I have the CZ 16-80 and if this new NEX lens is anything like it I would jump on it for landscaping and everyday use. I really like the results of the CZ16-80. Don't have a NEX anymore though.

same here, that is still my favourite lens , I suppose if it does arrive in the emount it will be big and heavy compared to Sony emounts

With reference to gio67 comment above, there is actually a picture of the Sony/Zeiss E mount 16-70mm here
http://www.sonyalpharumors.com/sr5-larg ... unt-zooms/
And for comparison there is a line-up of all Sony E mount lenses here
http://www.sonyalpharumors.com/sr5-firs ... ew-lenses/
The 16-70 looks large compared with the 16-50 pancake and even the 10-18mm wide angle, which is also constant F4, but the 18-105 looks colossal compared with the rest. Must have been fed plenty of "growth hormones".

it certainly does,
unfortunately my cz16-80 does not manual focus, I only found out when I got the Nex and I'm a great fan of DMF, I could not part with the lens though, it was always my on camera lens.

It doesn't actually look to be very ungainly at all--just a 55mm filter thread and a slightly wider barrel than the mount. Now the 18-105mm f/4 G is a monster--reminding me very much of the old Minolta 28-135mm f/4-4.5, also having the 72mm filter thread.

I did expect this lens been a 62mm thread, like the 10-18.

I believe the 18-105 will be targeted to video, more than stills.

Now we need NEX cameras, specially the NEX-7 replacement, focusing faster and accurate, specially in low light.

when I use the 16-80 on the nex 6 with the LA EA2 adaptor it has a nice balance to it and not in the least cumbersome

 Recently Sigma launched their master piece 18-35/1.8 for cropped sensor camera. I wonder how will these two new Nex zooms behave when compare to Sigma?
I am getting 16-70ZA anyway like my diving buddy is getting the 18-105 for its power zoom feature
