Setup the Tamron 200-500 on the tripod and attached the NEX-6 via the LA-EA2 and setup to trigger it with the android playmemories app, so far so good, but when focusing it using M or A mode it does not seem to give me a option use focus peaking so I can get focus spot on ??. Anyone else tried this, have I missed something ..
Thanks

Re: Focus peaking with LA-EA2 and the Playmemories wifi app
Focus peaking is a function of the screen driver, not the sensor output, in most applications (so is zebra stripe peaking in video cameras). I'm pretty sure it also does not work with all external HDMI screens, but Sony's 5 inch monitor is enabled (it provides its own focusing peaking). So I'm not surprised it is not active on a wireless remote view. But - I don't know for sure that it is impossible. I am only going on what I know of focusing peaking in general, not Sony's development of it.

I am 99% certain that Focus Peaking doesn't work with the LA-EA2 adapter.
Focus peaking works with the cameras internal CDAF system. The LA-EA2 uses the PDAF system in the adapter.

Re: Focus peaking with LA-EA2 and the Playmemories wifi app
Focus peaking absolutely works with LA-EA2 in both MF and DMF, just as it should. And I'm not guessing.

i am back home now and so have been checking with my equipment (NEX 7, LA-EA2, Sigma 50-150 f2..agorabasta wrote:Focus peaking absolutely works with LA-EA2 in both MF and DMF, just as it should. And I'm not guessing.
You are quite right that focus peaking works with LA-EA2 in manual focus mode, but on my gear the DMF option is disabled with the LA-EA2 and 50-150.
If I try and select DMF I get the message "invalid with this lens".
I haven't any other A mount lenses to try on my LA-EA2 so assume that it is something about the Sigma.
Which lenses and camera are you using with DMF and LA-EA2?
Re: Focus peaking with LA-EA2 and the Playmemories wifi app
Googling this subject suggests that some lenses do and some don't support DMF with the LA-EA2. One suggestion was that lenses which do not have an AF/MF switch do support it...but I can't verify this. My Sigma 50-150 does have a MF/AFswitch.

Re: Focus peaking with LA-EA2 and the Playmemories wifi app
All native Sony/Minolta lenses do DMF with LA-EA2 with the usual limitations, just as they they do with any a-mount body; which means that SAM lenses can't/don't . With Sigma you are limited to screwdriver, HSM won't do.mikebore wrote:Which lenses and camera are you using with DMF and LA-EA2?
All-in-all, a LA-EA2+Nex makes a real a-mount body minus IBIS; all other functionality is preserved.

Makes sense...my Sigma is HSM, so no DMFagorabasta wrote:All native Sony/Minolta lenses do DMF with LA-EA2 with the usual limitations, just as they they do with any a-mount body; which means that SAM lenses can't/don't . Re: Focus peaking with LA-EA2 and the Playmemories wifi app
I was wrong, using the LA-EA2 on the Tamron 200-500 f/5-6.3 I can use focus peaking using M and DMF, and even adding the Kiron 2x tele converter into the mix I can use M and focus peaking (not sure why I did not get this first time)
Also I can use focus peaking on my Minolta 28 f/2.8 and 50 f/1.4 and Sigma 50 f/2.8 macro so everything does work.
With the large 200-500 I do miss the camera steady shot, but if I setup everything using the camera screen I can then go hands off and trigger it using the remote app on the tablet or cell phone
Thanks for all your replies
