Wireless flash on NEX-6

Unread post by dynacam »

I have a Minolta 3600 HD D flash which has a wireless option and wondering what I need on the NEX-6 to get it working with the wireless option on the camera.
I have the hot shoe adapter and OC cable but would like to get the wireless bit working.
Thanks

Unfortunately, wireless flash with the NEX-6 cannot be operated with the camera's built-in flash. It's going to take two flash guns, one operating as a controller on your camera, and the other as a slave off-camera. Controller-capable flashes include F43AM, F58AM, F60AM, and possibly the F20M or F20AM depending on which flash guns you want to control and how you want to control them. There is another alternative. You can use a flash that has an optical slave mode. I have one on my Metz flash and it has pre-flash suppression too. Yongnuo also have a few flashes, manual only but quite good and also offering pre flash suppression.

I use my Metz quite happily with my Fuji compact, and can use it with any other camera off camera as a manual output flash. This is one reason I've not bought a Sony dedicated flash, not one supports an optical off camera flash mode..it's a heck of a lot more useful than you think.

If you're not using A mount cameras a simple and inexpensive Yongnuo would be my suggestion. Even if you are it's a cost effective way to get off camera flash quickly and cheaply.
