I saw this DIY Ring Flash on Strobist and thought I'd share it here for anyone ambitious enough to try it. Before you start outfitting your workshop to fashion one yourself, it's worth mentioning that the party responsible, one "Motley Pixel," appears to have abandonned it in favor of a first-party twin flash set-up (as evidenced by his Flickr photostream).

For the not-so-handy, there is now a kit available for around $30-40 which makes a pretty effective ring flash out of your flash gun with out all the measuring, cutting and painting: viewtopic.php?f=10&t=5328
