Printer failure or user error?

I recently purchased a Canon Pixma Pro-10 printer. The first couple of prints came out dark so I made some adjustments and printed again. At first I thought the printer choked but quickly realized the error of my ways. I had run the paper through upside down. I've never done that before. However now I see why printing photos uses so much ink. Those were quite the puddles left on the paper.
