Epson R1800 printer settings

I have received advice about DEC settings, for which I am grateful, but moving on to printing my question re my R1800 concerns colour settings.
Questions
1 Is it better to use Epson vivid or standard? Or is it just a matter of taste or fitting the choice to subject?I assume Adobe RGB is not advised following advice in seperate question.
2 Should I use Gamma 1.5, 1.8, or 2.2? The default seems to be 1.8 but advice on this would be welcome please?
3 Should I use photoenhance according to subject or is this overridden by photoshop editing?

You must not use any of these settings. First, you should use PRINT WITH PREVIEW in Photoshop. Do Page Setup, in the sidebar to this, which confirms your printer selection and paper size and feed type (this matters, as some profiles are only available for platen feed, CD-R writing etc). Then, select LET PHOTOSHOP DETERMINE COLOURS and choose the correct ICC profile for your paper type and the printer (use the Default R1800 'standard' profile if in doubt). Ilford, Tetenal, Harman, Permajet, Epson and Kentmere all have downloadable or provided profiles.

Now go to the PRINTER... options below this set-up. Go to Colour, and select NO COLOUR MANAGEMENT. This will immediately disable all the Epson amateur garbage like Vivid, Gamma settings etc which will just screw up most serious quality output. Now go to the PAPER (media) selection options, and choose the type of paper being used. Save all this as a preset, it will really make life easier later.

You have now set up a fully colour managed workflow for the R1800, go back to the earlier dialog from Print with Preview by closing the Printer options panel, and click PRINT.
