Today wandering on the beach (snow, sand and water to choose from) this happened.
One minute I've got "normal" shots like this:

... then 5 frames like this.

At the same time it didn't want to focus with the Sony 18-250.
I did the Microsoft solution first, off and on but to no avail.
Then I released the lens and rotated to the disconnect point without actally dismounting then fitted again.
Switch on and back to normal.

Any ideas?

Mike

I cannot answer your question directly, but something similar was discussed here.

Mike, Check to be sure all your contacts are clean. I don't know why that would cause a color shift, but since a twist of the lens solved it, that's a good place to start.

if it happens again try making a change in the white ballance setting and see if that brings it back.

Yes, had one like that - only one. It seems to be a fault which can occur intermittently, but could just take over entirely. The raw file is affected, so it is not actually a white balance issue - WB does not change raw data, except for adjusting exposure slightly. This fault produces purple raw files as well. That means it is a fault somewhere between the sensor and the raw file being written, most likely very early in the chain.

If it happens more than VERY occasionally I think the camera should be looked at. We have not bothered - it has happened only on one single frame.

is it possible this is a write error to the card?. hows are these raw dumps structured? is all the colour information at the beginning or end of the readout from the sensor in the file? seems more of the file should be damaged if that were the case but on the last few CF card failures that have been posted about this was one of the things about the files that was common aside from the photograph being sort of assembled improperly they all had a colour cast

Just for the record, was it a CF or MS you were using?

Thanks for all the comments guys.
No recurrence yet so will leave for a while to see.

Dr Harout, used CF (Extreme III 4GB) but have played on the MS this morning as well (Sony 8GB). No recurrence with either.

Mike
