I think it would be good news for the system if someone like DK was more involved with early reviews. We can but hope :D .

His recent feedbacks rather point into the direction that he is getting no review material from Sony at all. Not early, not late, nothing, nada, niente, rien, ganix, hiç bir sey... Didn't he mention he even bought some material in order to review it? Shame on Sony :?

Of course there is a new rumor running around about a new Sony Alpha, supposedly with photo evidence. The lens seems to be a Sony/Zeiss design, but even more clearly, the body seems to be a high-end Nikon, probably a D3s. This would not be the first time I've heard of people adapting Sony/Zeiss lenses to other brands.

Rumor started here: http://www.bobkrist.com/blog/

Compare the camera profile in question to the attached pictures below it, specifically the curve of the prism hump and the location of the strap attachment.

Although Sony does not give me advance notice, I do receive the same press information as any other UK journalist, at the same time. dPreview, AP, PP and a few inexplicable selected websites (including consumer test sites not related to photography) do get advance briefings. I often seem to be invited to events I have no interest in, but not invited to the ones which matter to me.

Anyway, why would I worry about an A750 when I get a Canon 1D MkIV ahead of everyone else in a day or two - along with some really STUPID big lenses I can't even think how to use?

David

Maybe because Canon realizes your value a whole lot more than Sony and they are trying to lure you into writing about them. They probably wouldn't mind having you start a PhotoclubEOS website. :)

/me hands David a large beanbag (with, included, a few mexican jumping beans hidden) to stabilize the big canon guns for his review.

but what would be the point? :?
It's a tossup as to which is the better (Nikon & Sony 24-70/2.8 ) & of course with the Sony on a Nikon body he wouldn't have AF or aperture control.

I'm just trying to imagine David with a baseball cap on backwards and three days stubble, lurking in the bushes doing a paparizzi with the 1D MkIV and the large lenses...hmm nope, I couldn't make that fit..at all so there goes that idea. How about finding a ski slope and getting some action shots, or maybe skating...sorry David, all those involve going out getting really cold and travelling on icy roads, but I can't think what else one could use large lenses on in the middle of your winter..there wouldn't be much, if any, outdoor sports at the moment...and very little wildlife activity either...that's a tough one alright.

I'm not sure what the point would be--it wasn't really my idea. I just know I've heard about it before. I've seen very good pictures in the DPReview challenges shot on Canon 5D MkII with a ZA 16-35 (as many suspect the lens to be in the picture above). However, I place more certainty on the camera being a Nikon than the lens being a Sony, which was my only point above.

Perhaps you could invest in a cheap flight to the Netherlands, go and sit in Gustav's hide, and then we could see some Canon Kingfisher shots :D . I suspect there may be warmer suggestions on how to test this kit though?

I heard it was a nice warn 58F/14C in Spain today. That would be a good start!

David, in the winter the surf is up big on the North Shore of Oahu. There are lots of surfing competitions there in the winter and also on other days lots of surfers. Photographers on the beach use their long lenses. You would be there wearing board shorts, barefoot, and a t-shirt. Trust me, it would be an enjoyable place and way to test out the long lenses. :)

Canon are talking about flying to Edinburgh with the camera to meet and brief me, then leaving it with me for a few days only. The days when I had budgets to fly abroad for tests are gone. In 1997 we got the F5, 1Dn, and Dynax 9 to test at the same time in January - I just booked Shirley and me a day trip to Barcelona (not even an overnight stay!) and we lugged all three kits on the flight, arriving as the sun rose and leaving after it set.

There are no more day trips from Scotland to Spain (or any other city - nothing much less than two-night breaks) and sadly no more thousands in working margin per magazine issue to dispose of creating content.

But there is a dry ski slope just near Edinburgh airport and it might have snow on it, with skiers using it 'properly'.

David
