Jacob's Closing Down Online Auction

Unread postby DrScottNicol » Thu Aug 30, 2012 4:05 pm

A sad day but possible UK bargains for those interested - DOZENS of ex demo and new Sony cameras on their auction site over at http://www.jacobsdigital.co.uk/ - ends in a few days. Plus other brands too and lots of Sigma lenses.

Be very careful when bidding. You need to be aware that first of all, a 15% Buyers' Premium will be added to whatever you bid. Secondly, on top of this total, 20% VAT will be added. This adds 38% to the price you think you are bidding.

I have bid on some stuff and not continued, because other bids place clearly don't understand that they will see a rather steep 38% nett added to their price, plus the cost of collection (no postal service offered, must be done in person).

Richard is only 30 minutes from this store and can collect for anyone who requires it, by arrangement, if I decide to bid on anything at the last minute taking into account the above charges. But I suspect I will not bid on anything as there are too many stupid bidders around who will fail to see the terms.

There were plenty of people willing to bid - sometimes rather silly amounts, taking into account the additional charges - and yesterday, when I went to collect the few items I'd won, the warehouse looked pretty empty. Some items went for quite reasonable prices, but judging by the number of transit vans loading up many dozens of the same items, I assume much of the stock is destined for resale somewhere.....

I can't believe anyone was dumb enough to pay more than RRP. I hope they understood what they were going to be charged over and above the asking price (poor fools)!
