Sigma to release 24-105mm f4 lens shortly...

Doesn't sound that exciting, but it's a popular lens range for FF users (and useful on APS-C too)
Bearing in mind Sony stopped making the 24-105mm KM re-badge, they don't actually have a 24mm zoom lens other than the 24-70mm F2.8 ZA SSM which is a wallet busting £1300+ right now. Actually they don't even have a a normal 24mm f2.8 prime either. Just a 28-75mm f2.8 re-badged Tamron as a more affordable FF offering zoom wise

Subject to good optical performance and reasonable price it could be a bit of a sleeper.

BTW another Canon user friend of mine had their 24-105mm L go tits up with the Error 01 problem (aperture won't open/close properly evidently a ribbon cable issue)
Could be one to watch we'll see.

It's got a monster 82mm front thread. I am likely to stick with my 'good' Sony 24-105mm f/3.5-4.5 (evidence that if the lens is well assembled, it can be OK). The price will not be all that reasonable either... but it's the sheer size of it which puts me off. I do not have any 82mm thread lenses, not even my 70-400mm needs that!

Wow! I hadn't spotted that 'little' detail. I've never really hit it off with my KM 24-105, but I'd don't often walk around with the A99, so I haven't been looking for a this sort of range up to now.
Nex 5, Nex 6 (IR), A7M2, A99 and a bunch of lenses.

Well big filter, and it's more weighty than the Canon version (which is far from a light lens has to be said)
Maybe Sigma have a secret weapon?

It might have better IQ and be priced at quite nice levels. It has to be else nobody will buy it! (Canon users anyway)

Oh dear!
You can buy the Canon EF 24-105mm f4L IS for £669

I can't see that having any hope at all who's going to buy it over the Canon one?
Even on other mounts it seems unrealistic for such a lens

Guess Sigma are smoking the same stuff Sony are with lens prices ;-)
